Southwest Airlines

Southwest's "cheery" staff, "cheap" fares," and "pretty much on time" performance are legendary. But "the easiest-to-use frequent flier program" is what makes folks happy to "pay those Texans."

I flew Southwest Airlines April 9th from Baltimore to Raleigh/Durham with a large group of fearful flyers from my fear of flying classes, and as usual was very impressed with the grounds crew and flight staff at both destinations. There were 14 of us in the group, and the flight attendant gave me a huge bag of keepsakes at the end of the flight to give each person in the group -- stuff like flight pins, extra peanuts, and a certificate congratulating them on flying Southwest. If you have any fears about flying I highly recommend flying Southwest Airlines -- in the 6 years I've been accompanying clients on "practice flights" I have never had a bad experience. Each time, the crew and grounds crew have been fantastic. When you tell them you are a fearful flier they are very solicitous and extremely knowledgeable about their aircraft, and don't mind in the least answering questions.

I flew Southwest Airlines round trip from San Jose, California to Burbank, California during November of 2004. I bought my ticket just two days before I took off, and paid only $218.20 total, including all taxes. This is what I like best about Southwest: It's pretty cheap. It also seems to have a best chance, of all the domestic airlines, of being on time. My flights were pretty much on time. The Southwest gate an San Jose feels pretty much like a well-appointed bus terminal. It's crowded, but cheery. Whenever I have to fly domestically, I always look to Southwest first. It's generally inexpensive, and they have the easiest-to-use frequent flier program. Love that!

I used Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards mileage to fly round trip from Oakland, CA to Providence, RI in June 2004. I was going to Boston. Logan, Boston's main airport, is a nightmare, so I was hopeful that landing at Providence, and taking the Amtrak up to Boston, was going to work. Boy, was I right! There's no better way to get to New England than to fly in to Providence on Southwest. Let me put it to you like this: There's no food, and the flight attendants aren't models, but the next time I have to visit Boston, I'll happily pay those Texans to get me to Providence
